CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) _ Wachovia Corp. unveiled its new logo Thursday, as it works to build a brand for the nation's fourth-largest bank, created by last year's $14.9 billion merger with First Union Corp.

The logo is a deep blue square crisscrossed with wavy white lines and segments of green, incorporating each company's signature color.

``What this logo means to me is the intertwining of the lines. It symbolizes two companies coming together,'' Wachovia president and chief executive officer Ken Thompson said in a ceremony at the bank's downtown headquarters. ``I really like the colors.''

The merger, completed in September, the nation's No. 4 bank with $330 billion in assets, 2,800 bank branches, 84,000 employees and 19 million customers in 11 states and the District of Columbia.

The new logo was created by bank executives working with consultant InterBrand.
