Man shot by police last week dies
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A man who was shot by police last week in Mississippi has died.
The Jackson Police Department on Monday confirmed the death of 37-year-old Lee Edward Bonner. Jackson news outlets say the shooting happened Wednesday.
Police said narcotics agents investigating possible drug activity near Jackson State University encountered two men who immediately ran to an abandoned house. One of them fired a handgun. Police said Bonner was shot when officers returned fire. He was hit two times.
Police said they recovered the weapon that was fired at the officers. They determined that it had been stolen.
The other suspect remained at large Monday.
Two unidentified officers were put on administrative leave pending the completion of investigations to determine whether there were any violations of laws or police policy.
