German Cartoon Creator Dies In Switzerland
ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) _ Otmar Gutmann, a German cartoon creator whose ″Pingu″ penguin starred in a popular television serial, has died of a heart ailment. He was 56.
Gutmann, a longtime resident of Switzerland, died Wednesday at his home in Russikon near Zurich, Swiss state TV said Thursday.
″Pingu,″ launched in the 1980s, was shown by more than 100 TV stations worldwide and won international prizes, said Swiss television, which produced the series.
Gutmann also produced marionette segments for children’s programs and film versions of children’s books.
Survivors include his wife. Funeral arrangements were not immediately available.
