Jefferson gymnasts beaten by Waterford
WATERFORD — The Jefferson gymnastics team lost its Southern Lakes Conference opener against host Waterford on Thursday 123.85-115.00.
The Eagles started on vault and scored 28.225. Senior Taylor Steinhorst scored 8.125 with a handspring vault to take fourth place and junior Kayla Gehrmann scored 8.10.
Jefferson moved to uneven bars and scored 31.775. Steinhorst placed third with a score of 7.50 and Gehrmann scored 7.250 to take fourth.
“Overall the bar routines looked good today, but there is room for improvement on finishing the skills to receive the most points available,” Jefferson gymnastics coach Charles Fischer said.
The Eagles slid over to balance beam and scored 28.20. Gehrmann scored 7.85 to finish third and Steinhorst scored 6.95.
“The falls gave away over four points, the team will be working on basics of keeping the hips over the feet to help stay on the beam,” Fischer said.
Jefferson finished on floor exercise and scored 28.225. Gehrmann scored 8.25 to take first and junior Alexis Nguyen scored 6.95. Junior Marley Harstford scored 6.60.
Gehrmann led the Eagles in the all-around competition with a score of 31.45 to take second. Steinhorst scored 28.825 to claim fourth. Jefferson hosts Whitewater for a conference dual meet on Thursday.
