Feilhaber’s goal lifts Sporting KC over Crew 2-1
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Benny Feilhaber scored in the 93rd minute, and Sporting Kansas City earned its fourth consecutive road win by beating the Columbus Crew 2-1 on Wednesday night.
An uncontested Feilhaber rifled a shot off the crossbar from just outside the 18-yard box. Igor Juliao started the sequence with a pass slightly behind Jacob Peterson, who settled it for a trailing Feilhaber.
Sporting FC moved into first place in the MLS Eastern Conference.
C.J. Sapong’s header gave Sporting KC (9-5-5) a 1-0 first half lead. But Sporting KC was reduced to 10-men in the 55th minute when Aurelien Collin received a red card after a challenge with Adam Bedell.
Columbus (4-7-8) tied it when Chad Barson lofted a cross inside the 6-yard box that deflected off Juliao’s shoulder for an own goal in the 69th minute.
The Crew’s Wil Trapp was sent off after receiving yellow cards in the 53rd and 89th minutes.
