Gun Shop Busy For Deer Season

November 26, 2018

Business has been brisk at one local gun shop recently as hunters prepared for the start of rifle deer season today. At Bear’s Gun Room in Wyoming, deer hunters have purchased rifle ammunition at a brisk pace for the past week, said a man who answered the phone at the shop Sunday afternoon. “Everybody’s buying ammo,” said the man, who identified himself as Roger. He declined to give his last name. Business at the shop has picked up as the first day of rifle deer hunting neared, he said. The shop is normally closed on Sundays but was open the day before the start of deer season to accommodate hunters. There has been an increase in the number of people taking hunting safety courses this year, Roger said. That might translate into more hunters in the woods for deer season, though it could also mean that more people are focused on gun safety, he said. Other gun and ammunition shops in Luzerne County appeared to be closed Sunday, as phone calls went unanswered. — ERIC MARK
