NEW YORK (AP) _ Catcher Jorge Fabregas, acquired by the Mets from Arizona on July 31, was traded from New York to Florida on Friday for reliever Oscar Henriquez and cash.
Fabregas, 28, hit .197 in 183 at-bats this year with two homers and 20 RBIs. He is to be paid $1.85 million in 1998, the final season of a two-year deal he signed with the Diamondbacks last spring.
Henriquez, 24, was 0-0 with an 8.55 ERA in 15 relief appearances with the Marlins. He struck out 19 in 20 innings but allowed 26 hits and 22 runs. In addition, he was 1-0 with a 2.56 ERA and 11 saves at Triple-A Charlotte of the International League.
``Oscar is a hard-throwing right-hander who we feel has the potential to be a force coming out of the bullpen,″ Mets general manager Steve Phillips said.
