Huskers will target ‘best available’ in January
Depending on what happens over the next two days, NU will have anywhere from four to seven scholarships available up to a maximum of 30.
The Huskers might opt to carry one into spring ball or beyond, but otherwise will have a few spots left between the weekend and Feb. 6’s signing day.
“It’s going to be a best available player that we can get to Lincoln,” Frost said. “For the most part, I still think there are some things we’d like to add. I still think we need to improve our depth at outside linebacker and pass rusher, so we will keep our eye out for that. If there’s another receiver that we can add, I think our depth there is not really where we want it to be through this first year. I still think we could use a young corner to try to get in here and develop to see if they can help us.”
Time will tell if the Huskers continue recruiting junior-college lineman Desmond Bland. Other likely January targets include defensive back Noa Pola-Gates (Gilbert, Arizona), receiver Charles Njoku (Wayne, New Jersey), cornerback Tavian Mayo (Leesburg, Georgia) and outside linebacker Brandon Mack (Montgomery, Alabama). Others, of course, can pop up as well.
