2 injured in crash on Interstate 279 southbound near McKnight Road

Firefighters respond to a two-car crash along southbound I-279 Friday afternoon.

At least two people were injured in a car crash that slowed traffic Friday along Interstate 279 in Pittsburgh’s North Hills, initial reports indicate.

The accident happened shortly before 5 p.m. on I-279 southbound near the Venture Street exit, just south of McKnight Road. It appeared to involve a sedan and a sport-utility vehicle.

Medics responded and took at least two people to a nearby hospital for treatment, an Allegheny 911 shift commander said.

As of 7 p.m., traffic delays persisted on I-279 from Pittsburgh city limits to Ross Township.

State police are investigating.
