Two arrested after undercover operation by drug enforcement unit, Kenova police

WAYNE — Two people are behind bars after a collaborative undercover investigation between the Wayne County Sheriff Drug Enforcement Unit and the Kenova Police Department.

Charles Brown III, 41, and Carmen Valentine, 45, both of Charleston, were apprehended Sunday night while in route to make a delivery in Wayne County from the Charleston area.

Brown was in possession of a loaded handgun and is prohibited from possessing firearms due to two felony drug convictions. Brown told officers he started carrying a gun because he has been shot on three separate occasions.

Brown was also in possession of a distribution quantity of crack cocaine, Xanax, Marijuana and imitation methamphetamine. He is charged with three counts of possession with intent to deliver, felon in possession of a firearm, conspiracy and possession with intent imitation controlled substance.

Valentine is charged with conspiracy.

Road patrol deputies also assisted in the arrest.

Brown is held on a $100,000 bond and Valentine is held on a $5,000 bond, both at Western Regional Jail.
