PIERRE, S.D. — South Dakota U.S. Sen. John Thune has climbed to the second-highest rung on the Senate Republican leadership ladder with a promotion to majority whip. Thune had served in the No. 3 leadership post as chairman of the Senate Republican Conference since 2012. A term limit for majority whips forced Texas Sen. John Cornyn out of the job. HURON, S.D. — The White House’s annual Thanksgiving turkey was presented to the public on Wednesday, in advance of its trip to the nation’s capital and a likely pardon.
