Salem State’s Bryan Nets Award
SALEM -- Salem State guard Sean Bryan, of Lowell, was named MASCAC men’s basketball player of the week on Monday, following a 1-1 week with the Vikings.
The junior averaged 34 points on 18-for-41 (43.9 percent) shooting, six rebounds and five steals for Salem State. Bryan scored 27 points, including going 11-for-11 from the free-throw line with nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals in a 108-97 win over Bridgewater State and then hit a career-high 41 points with four assists in a 94-93 setback to Westfield State.
WESTFIELD -- Westfield State senior and Westford resident Lexi Popp was named MASCAC women’s track athlete of the week on Monday.
Popp set two school records at the David Hemery Invitational at Boston University, breaking her own record in the 400-meters with a time of 56.7, the third fastest time in the nation on the performance list at that point. She also snapped a seven-year old mark in the 200 with a time of 25.76.
LOWELL -- Goaltenders Tyler Wall and Christoffer Hernberg of UMass Lowell have been named the Hockey East Co-Players of the Week.
They each picked up a shutout over the weekend, lifting UMass Lowell to wins over Boston College and second-ranked UMass.
Wall stopped all 28 shots from Boston College for his fourth shutout of the season and seventh career shutout. Hernberg blanked UMass with 31 saves for his eighth career shutout.
LOWELL -- Sophomore attackman Harry Morrill (Hyde Park) of the UMass Lowell men’s lacrosse team was named America East Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his River Hawk career.
Morrill totaled three goals in the season opener in a 12-10 victory against Quinnipiac. He finished with 11 of UML’s 29 shots on goal.
