Spare toilet part prompts suspicious item report and evacuation of Pocatello bus terminal
POCATELLO — Police and fire units responded to the report of a suspicious item found at the Pocatello Regional Transit bus terminal on the city’s south side on Wednesday night.
But after evacuating the South Fifth Avenue terminal, Pocatello police discovered the item was a harmless spare part for the terminal’s automated toilets.
An individual at the bus terminal reported spotting the suspicious item on the floor of one of the terminal’s restrooms around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the part does look suspicious in that it’s a cylinder with wires coming out of it.
Police said it didn’t take them long to figure out what the part was used for and they reopened the terminal less than 30 minutes after evacuating it.
Police said they were very pleased with what they called a “textbook” emergency response to the incident.
