TAX REBATES-EDUCATION

PORTLAND, Ore. — Momentum is building to end the only-in-Oregon approach of issuing tax rebates in order to build reserves for schools. The Oregonian/OregonLive reports that if Oregon economists’ predictions hold, taxpayers will receive up to $724 million worth of “kicker” rebates when they file their income taxes in 2020. NCAA-OREGON

The NCAA has imposed two years of probation on Oregon after finding the university committed infractions related to the men’s and women’s basketball teams and the track and field program. The NCAA’s report says men’s coach Dana Altman failed to monitor his director of basketball operations, who took part in or observed at least 64 individual voluntary workouts in violation of NCAA rules.
