Safety being stressed for upcoming harvest season

September 26, 2018

LINCOLN - With the harvest season almost here the Nebraska Corn Board and the Nebraska Corn Growers Association are reminding farmers to be safe.

Director of Communications Kurtis Harms says farmers or anyone around harvest machinery should be wary of entanglement hazards, fall hazards, and fire prevention.

Harms also says anyone who may be visiting or traveling through rural areas should be mindful of increased farm traffic on roads and highways.

“We always encourage people to take that extra second for safety. Look maybe a couple of extra times at an intersection, drive slower in farm areas. Also, it can be tempting to pass one of these slow moving vehicles, but that can be kind of dangerous because you never know what’s coming.”

Harms says farmers typically have a narrow window to complete their harvest work, so it’s important they take care of themselves to ensure a safe and productive season.
