Mourners remember daycare van driver killed in crash
Friends, family and daycare students on Saturday honored the memory of Martha Darlene Peterson, the daycare van driver killed in a crash Tuesday.
Peterson’s daughter, Destiny Cherry, said she and her mother had lunch together that day.
Hours later, police arrived at Cherry’s work with the news that Peterson had been killed by an alleged impaired driver.
Cherry said she was incredibly close with her mom, adding that Peterson had a huge heart and loved her students.
Cherry has also spoken with the man who called 911 to report a man driving erratically down Barber Mill Road.
He told her Peterson, who went by Ms. Darlene, did everything in her power to keep her students safe.
“She was very selfless,” Cherry said. “She cared about them children; she loved them children. I heard about it every time I came home. She loved them. And now I get little cards from them.”
Seth Charles Tracy, 38, of Holly Springs, was charged with death by motor vehicle and driving while impaired.
Peterson’s family members said they’ll be following Tracy’s court case closely as they search for justice for Peterson.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family with medical bills, memorial services and legal expenses.
