Thompson, Beverly Hills girls continue to lead pack
The 2018 portion to the intermediate schools girls basketball schedule was very kind to the programs on the west side of the Gulf Freeway.
Now with everyone taking a breather for the Christmas break, will the 2019 portion of the schedule be every bit as kind as November and December?
There’s only four undefeated teams remaining among the Pasadena ISD squads and the four belong to Thompson and Beverly Hills Intermediate.
Thompson especially is enjoying a terrific campaign so far. Of its four teams, the Lady Lions are a sizzling 19-1 overall. Beverly Hills is 15-5 overall but 11-1 against district opponents, the same record as Thompson.
In eighth-grade Light, Thompson’s 5-0 season record has been buoyed by a 3-0 district ledger which leads Zone A by a half-game over Southmore.
Beverly Hills owns a full game on surprising Queens and its 2-0 record in Zone B play.
In Week 5 action, Beverly Hills defeated Jackson 46-25 and Thompson surged by San Jacinto 42-14. In the best game of the week, Queens nipped Southmore 30-26, giving the Hornets a 4-1 overall mark.
In eighth-grade Dark, Thompson (3-0) and Southmore (2-0) are waiting for their big game in Zone A, while Bondy (2-0), Queens (2-0) and Beverly Hills (2-1) are neck-and-neck in Zone B.
Queens dfeated Southmore 17-9, Bondy coasted past Park View 39-7 and Beverly Hills downed Jackson 25-13.
The seventh-grade Light scene has Thompson running away with that title. At 3-0, none of the Lions’ opponents have two district wins. But overall, Miller and San Jacinto are 4-1 and 1-1 in district.
Thompson, however, soared past San Jacinto 33-11, while Miller won by 45 points over South Houston.
In Zone B, 3-0 Beverly Hills is trying to stay a step ahead of Queens and its 2-0 record. Their showdown is fast approaching.
The seventh-grade Dark campaign has Southmore owning a 2-0 record in Zone A, but Thompson is 2-1 and the Lady Lions own the best overall mark of 4-1.
In Zone B, Beverly Hills is 3-0 and again no opponent has reached two victories yet. Prior to the break, the Lady Bears stayed perfect with a 26-12 win over Jackson.
The nailbiter-of-the-week saw Queens improve to 3-2 overall with a 22-20 win over Southmore.
