Multiple students injured in rollover school bus crash near Hickory

Several students were taken to the hospital after a school bus overturned in Alexander County Monday morning.

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol, emergency crews responded to a crash on Icard Ridge Road near Bulldog Lane around 7:30 a.m. The crash happened near West Alexander Middle School near the Bethlehem community.

The Alexander County Schools superintendent confirmed to NBC Charlotte that more than a dozen students were on the bus during the crash.

In total, 14 people, including the bus driver, were taken to the hospital for treatment. Six of the students who were treated for injuries returned to class, according to school officials at the scene of the accident.
