Deadlines loom with upcoming election
GERING — The deadline for registering online, mailed in or at the DMV is Oct. 19.
The last day to register in person is Oct. 26. Scotts Bluff County will be open until 6 p.m. on Oct. 26 in order for people to register to vote.
Candidates need to be aware of ordinances regarding the placement of political signage.
In Scottsbluff, no outdoor political signs shall exceed eight square feet in total area. Unless within a building or enclosed structure, signs cannot exceed four feet in overall height. Political signs cannot be specifically lit with either direct or indirect lighting.
Political signs are prohibited within the street right-of-way of any state or local political jurisdiction.
Political signs cannot be displayed less than 45 days prior to the date of the election. They must be removed no later than 10 days after Election Day.
For the City of Gering, political signs may only be placed on private property, no sooner than eight weeks prior to a primary or general election. They shall be removed no later than five days after Election Day.
Political signs cannot be placed within the street right-of-way. As a general rule of thumb, the street right-of-way is measured to approximately one foot behind a conventional sidewalk.
