Love Your Legislator Day Planned For Wisconsin Churches
JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) _ As if politicians didn’t find enough opportunities to speak their minds, a man wants people to show appreciation for their public officials by offering them a pulpit.
Steven Trueblood is urging 500 Wisconsin churches to declare Jan. 13 ″Love Your Legislator Day.″
″We’re asking the churches to invite legislators to the Sunday service, give them a few minutes to express their views on public issues and then have a session after the service where church members can go up to their legislators and thank them for their service,″ Trueblood said.
Trueblood, who describes himself as a former felon and drug dealer, is director of the Freedom Council of America, a Janesville group that provides volunteer chaplain services to the Wisconsin and Illinois legislatures.
He said he became a born-again Christian in 1982 and was later pardoned by Gov. Tommy G. Thompson.
″After the scandal of Watergate, it seems like we lost complete respect for the position these people serve in,″ Trueblood said. ″The public service arena is filled with dedicated, hard-working people who deserve to be honored for the position they hold.″
