Police Arrest Neb. Slaying Suspect
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) _ Police arrested a suspect Wednesday in the slaying of a pregnant woman whose throat was slashed and whose legs were sawed off below the knees.
Vickie Soto, who was 8 1/2 months pregnant, was apparently sitting on her sofa Sunday when she was attacked with a sharp object, police said. Her baby did not survive.
Police dogs found Soto’s missing limbs, wrapped in plastic, in the undergrowth at a bridge along a river.
Authorities were awaiting lab results that could connect the suspect to the 40-year-old woman.
``He is a strong suspect,″ Police Chief Martin Gutschenritter said. ``The pieces are starting to fall into place.″
The coroner said Soto apparently died from the throat wound before her legs were cut off, and did not appear to have been sexually assaulted.
