Friday’s preps: Late pick seals Brother Rice win

A interception on the goal line by Colin Gardner with 23 seconds left sealed visiting Birmingham Brother Rice’s 13-7 win over the 13th-ranked team in Indiana, Mishawaka Penn, on Friday.

Brother Rice was led by quarterback Gregory Piscopink, who completed 14 of 17 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. Gardner finished with 83 yards on nine receptions, in addition to making the clinching interception.

Brother Rice came into the game after defeating Catholic League foe U-D Jesuit, 28-0, in its opener last week.

Brother moves to 2-0 on the season and will face Windsor (Ontario) Holy Names next week.

Detroit Community 30, Southfield Bradford 12: Rayvon Williamson had eight carries for 126 yards and two touchdowns, Keyuan Sanders rushed for 165 yards and one touchdown, Eric Smith had a 30-yard touchdown run and Cedric Martin had eight tackles, including three for loss and two sacks for Community (2-0). Bradford is 0-2.

Detroit Denby 22, Harper Woods Chandler Park 20: Tyshawn Wilkes had 20 carries for 173 yards and two touchdowns and brothers Jamari and Kamari Griffin each had an interception for Denby (2-0). Chandler Park is 0-2.

Detroit Loyola 38, Ann Arbor Richard 14: Sophomore running back Kiem Moore had two rushes for 23 yards with two touchdowns, sophomore Marquise Henderson had a rushing touchdown and senior quarterback Marcus Lee completed two passes for 55 yards and a touchdown for Loyola (2-0, 1-0 Catholic League AA). Ann Arbor Richard is 0-2, 0-1.
