INKOM — A 73-year-old rural Inkom woman was found dead on Thursday afternoon after being reported missing earlier in the day.

The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office said Georgeanna Russell’s body was found around 3:30 p.m. Thursday by local residents who had volunteered to help emergency responders find her.

Russell had been reported missing by her family around noon Thursday after being last seen around 9 p.m. Wednesday at her home on Marsh Creek Road.

The Sheriff’s Office said that Russell’s body was found near her home. Additional details such as her cause of death have not yet been released by authorities.

Authorities did say they believe that prior to her death Russell left her residence on foot without shoes or a coat during the winter storm that began dumping snow on the region late Wednesday night.

Sheriff’s deputies and Bannock County Search and Rescue personnel started searching for Russell in the Marsh Creek Road area shortly after she was reported missing. A drone was brought in to assist in the search.

Several of Russell’s neighbors helped with the search and some of these individuals are the ones who found her body, the Sheriff’s Office said.
