China’s Shang Sets World Lifting Record
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) _ China’s Shang Shichun set three world records in the women’s 163-pound division at the World Weightlifting Championships on Thursday.
The 24-year-old Shang broke records in the snatch, clean and jerk and total weight, all set last year by countrywoman Sun Ruiping.
Shang lifted 264 pounds to eclipse the snatch record of 260.7 pounds, and her clean and jerk of 336.6 pounds surpassed the previous mark of 335.5.
Her total weight of 599.5 pounds easily beat Sun’s mark of 594 pounds.
Egypt’s Nahla Ramadan finished second. She set a world junior record in the snatch, lifting 258.5 pounds and beating the previous record of 256.3.
Bulgaria’s Slaveyka Ruzhinska finished third.
In the men’s competition, Bulgaria’s Milen Dobrev won the 206.8-pound class. Turkey’s Hakan Yilmaz was second, and Moldova’s Vadim Vacarciuc was third.
