Hall Wins Light Heavyweight Bout
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) _ Light heavyweight Richard Hall, the WBA’s No. 2 contender, registered a quick, convincing victory over New Zealander Anthony Bigeni on Saturday, stopping him in the third round.
After a tentative start, Hall took control in the second round, backing Bigeni into the ropes and administering a solid beating as Bigeni held up his hands, offering no offense.
He knocked Bigeni down early in the third and later forced him into the ropes again, unloading about eight consecutive punches and bloodying his right eye before referee Rudy Battle stepped in at 1:49 of the round.
Hall, of Winter Haven, Fla., boosted his record to 23-1 and captured what was billed as the ``interim″ WBA light heavyweight title. Bigeni, of Otaharu, New Zealand, dropped to 19-5.
The fight was on the undercard of the Johnny Tapia-Nana Konadu WBA bantamweight title match at the Atlantic City Convention Center.
