School board ballot applications open
The biennial elections for four of the seven positions on the Crosby ISD board of trustees are up for grabs in November’s general election.
Members of the Crosby ISD Board of Trustees serve four year terms.
Applications are open, allowing interested parties to get their name on the ballot. The four positions are District 1 (currently filled by Tanya Eagleton), District 2 (currently filled by Cathi Hughes), District 3 (currently filled by John Lindsey, and an at-large position (currently held by John Swinney).
“A Board Member’s primary responsibilities include communicating with the community they serve and adopting local policies for the school district that are aligned with legal policies, adopting a yearly budget and tax rate, setting district goals, and the hiring and yearly evaluating of the school superintendent,” said Viviana Killion, Director of Community Relations for Crosby ISD.
There are 11 regular board meetings each year, plus special board meetings and several specially called board meetings.
“In addition to the meetings, board members are expected to thoroughly review Board packets prior to each board meeting. Board members are also expected to maintain their continuing education credits by attending trainings throughout the year or completing online coursework to ensure that they are properly trained to fulfil the duties of a trustee and to keep current with any legislative changes,” explained Killion.
Applications must be filled out and signed by the candidate and can be submitted either in person or by mail to Viviana Killion, Director of Community Relations at the district’s central administrative offices located at 706 Runneburg Road, Crosby, Texas 77532 by Aug. 20.
“While the time commitments might be great, serving the district and community in this capacity can also be quite rewarding,” Killion said.
