Women’s group to hold 5K run benefitting families dealing with illness

WESTLAKE, Ohio — The women’s advocacy group Fight Like a Girl will host a 5K and one-mile run this weekend in Westlake to draw attention to the struggles women face.

The group works to support women struggling with situations like the loss of a loved one, illness or domestic violence. The event hopes raise money to help families struggling with the financial costs of life-threatening medication conditions.

The event is schedule for Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Roman Park.

Participation in the 5K requires a $35 entry fee. The one-mile run costs $25.

The race will close several roads between about 8:15 a.m. and 10 a.m. Sunday, according to Westlake Police. Officers will be on hand at major intersections to try to help local traffic pass through safely. The affected roads are:

One lane of Crocker Road between the Bay Village line at the railroad tracks and Koyo Drive

Bassett Road between Crocker Road and Clemens Road

Ranney Parkway

Clemens Road between Bassett Road and Ranney Parkway and Westchester Parkway
