Steel City Classic fishing tournament coming to Allegheny, Kiski rivers

The Steel City Classic fishing tournament will be held Sept. 8 on the Kiski and lower Allegheny rivers.

The event’s launch time is set for 7 a.m. and the fish submission deadline will be 3 p.m.

The tournament identifiers - which need to be visible in all photos -- will be released about a week prior to the event and the code will be released at 8 p.m. Sept. 7 during the virtual captains meeting via Facebook live.

Optional check is scheduled for 6 a.m. at The River’s Edge Canoe & Kayak, 3158 River Road in Gilpin.

The River’s Edge Canoe & Kayak is the tournament sponsor. Kayak Anglers of Western Pennsylvania is organizing the event.

The boundary limits are:

Lower Allegheny River: From Templeton to Point State Park in Downtown Pittsburgh. Anglers are advised to study the navigation charts for the Allegheny River and learn the locations of the locks and dams.

Kiski River: From the Conemaugh dam to Saltsburg on the Kiski River and from Loyalhanna dam to Saltsburg on the Loyalhanna, then from Saltsburg to the mouth of the Allegheny River.

Anglers should be back at The River’s Edge for an awards ceremony at 4 p.m. There will be food, music and a charity raffle benefiting Three Rivers Waterkeepers that features a Hobie Compass kayak.

The cost is $20 for Kayak Anglers members and $35 for non-members.
