CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — England won the toss and elected to bat on Tuesday in their 50 overs tour match against the Prime Minister's XI at the Manuka Oval.

Captain Alastair Cook named a strong England side as the tourists sought their first win in six matches after losing the Ashes test series in a 5-0 whitewash and Sunday's first match of a four-match one-day international series.

Cook said "we need to win a game and we've picked a strong side to do it."

Players faced testing conditions with temperatures expected to reach 37 degrees.

The Prime Minister's XI is captained by former test fast bowler Brett Lee.
