Mother gets 2½ years for attempted murder, endangerment
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts woman who was found with her 3-year-old daughter inside an idling car with the exhaust pipe stuffed with clothing has been sentenced to 2½ years in prison.
The Telegram & Gazette reports 40-year-old Leeann Rickheit was sentenced Monday in Worcester to 2 ½ years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder and child endangerment charges.
Police say Rickheit made a comment to her mother about harming her child in 2017. Rickheit’s mother called police, sparking an Amber Alert.
Rickheit and her daughter were found the next morning in Charlton. Both were unconscious or asleep in a car. A trooper smashed a window and both were hospitalized.
Police say Rickheit later told them she wanted to kill herself.
A judge ordered Rickheit to undergo mental health evaluations.
