Man arrested for walking through school dresses as deputy

September 5, 2019

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (AP) — Authorities have arrested a man who they say walked through a North Carolina elementary school dressed like a sheriff’s deputy.

The Herald-Sun of Durham reports the Orange County Sheriff’s Office says 40-year-old Christopher Lee Hill went to New Hope Elementary School with his girlfriend last week wearing tactical pants, a black polo shirt and a black vest, similar to what deputies wear on duty. Hill told two teachers he was providing volunteer security.

Deputies say Hill’s vest had a “Punisher” logo on the front and a large “Sheriff” patch on the back. The “Punisher” symbol refers to Frank Castle, a Marvel comic book character inspired to fight crime when his wife and children are murdered.

Hill, jailed under a $500,000 bail, was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
