NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Some Kenyan hospitals are appealing for blood donations as the number of people wounded in an attack on an upscale hotel complex in Nairobi remains unknown. Night has fallen and it is not immediately clear whether attackers are still active in the complex and how many people might be trapped or hiding inside. The al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab extremist group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

LONDON (AP) — British lawmakers will consider four proposed amendments to Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit deal before they vote on the agreement itself. As Tuesday’s debate kicked off, Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow announced which amendments he had chosen for debate from more than a dozen submissions.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general is defending his decision to send an unsolicited memo to the Justice Department criticizing an aspect of the special counsel’s Russia investigation. WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House has invited rank-and-file House Democrats to lunch with President Donald Trump, bypassing Speaker Nancy Pelosi as part of a strategy to peel off centrist and freshman lawmakers to support funding his U.S.-Mexico border wall. An aide says Pelosi gave lawmakers her blessing to attend Tuesday, telling her leadership team the group can see what she and others have been dealing with during the shutdown. Pelosi and her team have met several times with Trump during the 25-day shutdown.

BARRON, Wis. (AP) — A criminal complaint describes the terrifying ordeal of 13-year-old Jayme Closs, who heard her father being shot to death, watched as a stranger then turned the gun on her mother, then was dragged off to a remote cabin in northeastern Wisconsin. Jayme was held for almost three months, often trapped under a bed in her alleged captor’s bedroom for hours at a time. She escaped Thursday, and Jake Thomas Patterson was charged Monday with kidnapping and two counts of murder.
