Dow Up 18 in Early Going

NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices are higher in moderate trading. The Dow Jones Industrial average is up 18 points in today’s early going. Gainers on the New York Stock Exchange hold a four-to-three lead over losers.

The Nasdaq Composite Index has gained eight points and the Standard-and-Poor’s 500 Stock Index is ahead two points.

Analysts expected stocks to open higher as investors mark the passing of the 10th anniversary of the 1987 crash.

Earnings reports will again be in the spotlight. The market got some good news this morning when AT&T’s quarterly earnings came in better than analysts had expected.

Two key earnings reports in the technology sector, from IBM and Microsoft, will come out after the closing bell.

Tech stocks have been under pressure after Intel, Seagate Technology and Sun Microsystems all posted earnings that didn’t meet projections.
