A Meyersdale woman was charged after police found more than 70 stamp bags heroin in her vehicle after an accident.
State police said Melissa Lee Spiker crashed her vehicle into a tree along Copper Kettle Highway in Milford Township Sunday. She told police that she swerved to miss a deer and drove off the road. Police searched her vehicle and found an uncapped needle on the floor and a metal spoon on the ground.
Police searched her purse and found 74 stamp bags labeled “sonic” packaged in bundles.
She told police that they contained heroin. She admitted she “shot-up” heroin prior to the crash, according to police.
A witness told police that Spiker drove off the road into a cornfield about a quarter-mile prior to the crash.
Spiker, 34, of Center Street, was charged with manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, possession of a controlled substance, criminal mischief, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and careless driving. She is in the Somerset County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 16 before District Judge Sandra L. Stevanus in New Centerville.
