Aces boys tennis bests Carmi on Senior Night
MOUNT CARMEL -- A slew of cancellations in spring sports caused Mount Carmel boys tennis to have a few cancellations, pushing Senior Night back to May 7, a match that was originally scheduled to be at Carmi was swapped to be a home match for the Aces seniors.
Among the seniors who were recognized in the ceremony prior to the match included Brock Plassman, Tyler Johnston, Gary Harness and Logan Baker. They’re just the second class of seniors to run through the boys tennis team and were all on board for joining the program upon its inception last year.
Following the festivities to send off these seniors, the Aces faced Carmi and fared well on the memorable day, defeating Carmi 5-4 overall between the singles and doubles matches.
Among the singles results included:
Harness defeating Troy Yang, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5), Copper Craig defeated Chris Whetstone 6-0, 6-1, Johnston defeating Alex O’Daniel, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (4), Dillon Truelove defeating Baker, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (4), Hunter Colman defeating Plassman 6-2, 6-1 and Andrew Goldman beating Kaden Carter 6-2, 7-5.
In the doubles half the results were:
Yang-Hunter Colman defeating Johnston-Baker 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (9), Harness-Plassman defeated O’Daniel-Carter, 7-6 (1), 6-7 (1), 1-0 (9), Whetstone-Lucas Ingram defeated Craig-Truelove, 6-3 6-3.
In JV action Ivan Holt-Isaac Kieffer lost to Craig-Colman 4-0 and Lucas Ingram defeated Truelove 4-0.
The boys tennis team are slated to play at Newton on Tuesday, May 14 at 4:30 p.m. It’ll be their final match of the season prior to Illinois postseason play.
