Power outage from high winds causes school closures
HOPKINTON, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts public school district has closed after powerful winds downed power lines.
Hopkinton town officials tweeted Tuesday that high winds knocked down a tree that pulled down electrical lines to three of the town’s schools.
The town says utility company Eversource has been working to restore power but it wouldn’t be in time for the opening of school.
State emergency management officials said about 10 percent of the town had lost power Tuesday morning.
Hopkinton is a town west of Boston perhaps best known as the starting point for the Boston Marathon.
