2 California deputies under investigation for elder abuse

March 16, 2018

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities are investigating two California sheriff’s deputies who allegedly stole money and other property from a 75-year-old woman who suffers from dementia, listed her home for sale and put her on a plane to the Philippines.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department says it began investigating in late January after someone expressed concern for the welfare of an elderly woman who had not been seen in days.

It says investigators located the woman in the Philippines, where she was staying with relatives.

The department gave no other details, citing the ongoing investigation.

According to court documents first obtained by KTXL-TV, the woman met the deputies in mid-January during a call for service.

The woman’s attorney says the deputies were subsequently granted power of attorney and named agents on her living will.
