It’s Election Day
LINCOLN - Tuesday is Election Day, and there are a number of local and state races up for grabs.
Nebraska Radio Network News Director Brent Martin tells News Talk WJAG looking at the state contests, the gubernatorial matchup between Republican incumbent Pete Ricketts and Democrat challenger Bob Krist has been an interesting campaign.
“I think it’s interesting because Bob Krist came into the Unicameral as a Republican, was going to mount an independent campaign, and then was wooed by democrats and became a Democrat and now running as a Democrat against the Republican incumbent. It really is a fascinating race.”
Martin says another interesting race is the Medicaid Expansion Initiative.
He says he’s curious to see how that plays out.
“It’s a referendum on what the legislature has done. It can be compared to the capital punishment vote because it seemed to me that the voters of Nebraska almost rebute the Unicameral with their vote on the death penalty. Will they do it again with Medicaid Expansion? And what does that say about representative government in the Unicameral?”
Martin added he believes it’ll be very difficult for Jane Raybould, the Democrat to unseat Republican U.S. Senator incumbent Deb Fishcer, however it’s not impossible as Fischer herself pulled off a huge upset in the 2012 Primary.
The polls close Tuesday at 8.
