Deadline Looms For Bulk Stickers In W-B Neighborhood

WILKES-BARRE — Friday, Oct. 12, is the final day for residents in the East End, Parsons and Miners Mills neighborhoods with a Friday trash and recycling collection day to purchase Large Item Collection stickers and have their items collected on Monday, Oct. 15 beginning at 7 a.m. Residents may purchase up to two collection stickers by 2 p.m. Friday. Stickers may be purchased at either the Tax Office, 1st Floor, City Hall, 40 E. Market Street., or Hollenback Golf Course, 1050 N. Washington St. The tax office is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the golf course clubhouse is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Saturday. Permit stickers are $10 per item or container (65-pound maximum per container). Residents may purchase stickers for up to two items/containers (limit one item/container per sticker). There is a limit of two stickers per household. Commercial properties and high rises are excluded from the pickup. Stickers must be attached to each item/container. Items must be placed curbside by 6 a.m. the day of the pickup. Accepted items include furniture, mattresses, washers, dryers, hot water heaters, refrigerators with doors removed, stoves, dishwashers, compactors, chest freezers, water coolers, dehumidifiers and containers of household junk. Items not accepted include electronics such as TVs, microwaves, computers and stereos, and rugs, dishes, lamps, tires, car batteries, recyclables, residential waste and yard waste. Crews will not return to homes that did not place their items outside in time for pickup. Anyone who sees illegal dumping should immediately call 911 and be prepared to provide descriptions on people, vehicles and/or license plates of those dumping.
