Murrysville stays alive at Youth Legion state tournament
Murrysville doubled up Northampton 4-2 Monday afternoon to stay alive in the double-elimination PA Youth Legion Baseball State Finals in Spring City near Philadelphia.
The Eagles (2-1) bounced back from a 5-0 loss to Spring City on Saturday with a 6-4 victory over J.P. Mascaro on Sunday.
They now will face 3-0 West Lawn on Tuesday at 1 p.m. West Lawn remained undefeated with an 8-1 victory over Millcreek (Erie) on Monday evening.
Murrysville led Northampton 1-0 through six innings before scoring three insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Northampton scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to set the final.
Noah Sofran drove in two runs to lead Murrysville, while Brian Pirone and Trevor Brncic each added an RBI in the victory.
Luke Treloar pitched a complete game as he scattered four Northampton hits and struck out seven.
In Sunday’s win over J.P. Mascaro, the Eagles rallied from a 4-0 deficit after three innings with a run in the fourth and five in the fifth.
Conor Helm tossed a complete game. He gave up six hits and struck out three.
Murrysville now is a combined 8-5 in its three playoff tournaments and is 22-9 overall.
