Boca remain in 5th spot after loss to San Lorenzo
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Boca Juniors lost 2-0 to San Lorenzo on Sunday and remains fifth on the standings after the fourteenth round of Argentina’s first division.
Boca’s bitter rival River Plate remains four points clear at the top of the ladder with a game in hand after its match against Estudiantes was postponed due to pitch conditions. Heavy rain also stopped second place Lanus from completing the game against Tigre, although the first half finished 0-0. Sunday’s other game, Arsenal against Independiente, was also postponed.
Martin Cauteruccio opened for San Lorenzo with a header in the 52nd and Gonzalo Veron doubled the lead with a powerful finish six minutes later.
On Saturday, Belgrano defeated Godoy Cruz 3-1. Gimnasia la Plata lost 1-0 to Racing Club, Quilmes overcame Velez Sarsfield 2-1, and Atletico Rafaela against Rosario Central ended 2-0. On Friday, Banfield thrashed Olimpo 3-0.
It has still not been decided when River Plate’s postponed game against Estudiantes will take place, though it is likely to be scheduled for Nov. 12, when Tigre face Lanus for 45 minutes, and Arsenal play Independiente.
