Nancy Pelosi says Joe Biden’s behavior is not ‘disqualifying’ for a presidential candidate

April 2, 2019

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday defended former Vice President Joseph R. Biden, saying the recent allegations of inappropriate touching that have been leveled against him are not “disqualifying” for a 2020 presidential candidate.

“I don’t think it’s disqualifying,” Mrs. Pelosi said during a Politico Playbook event Tuesday. “He has to understand in the world that we’re in now that people’s space is important to them, and what’s important is how they receive it and not necessarily how you intended it.”

That puts the California Democrat on the other side of the debate from former Nevada assembly member Lucy Flores who came forward last week to accuse Mr. Biden of touching her and kissing her head without her consent and described the behavior the 2014 behavior as “disqualifying” for a presidential candidate

A second accuser, Amy Lappos, came forward Tuesday to say that Mr. Biden also acted inappropriately at a 2009 fundraiser when he rubbed noses with her.
