Thanks For Bringing Joy To Our Children This Halloween

November 13, 2018

Editor: Thank you, thank you, to the many wonderful volunteers who brought an “Orange Sparkle” to our children in Downtown Wilkes-Barre on Halloween. To Diamond City Partnership, Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce, John Maday, Downtown Wilkes-Barre Business Association, The Citizens’ Voice, The Times Leader, Wilkes University History Club, F.M. Kirby Center. A special thanks to our Wilkes-Barre Fire Department and our police force who handed out candy and glow-sticks to the children. A big thank you goes out to, Patty Hughes, Events Coordinator for City of Wilkes-Barre. She went over the top pulling this together. The weather was beautiful and the children ranged from 10 months on up to 12 years. Watching each child beaming and giving thanks for the candy they received was a delight. Thanks to our Mayor Tony George for helping with the festivities, the streets were blocked off to make it safe for the children to parade down South Main Street, around the square and over to the Kirby Center for treats. There was music that echoed throughout the city, a Michael Jackson tribute dance with David Blight School of Dance, photos taken of little ghosts and goblins, dancers in Midtown Village and lots and lots of candy to go around, some of which was donated by HKQ Law Firm. We estimated there may have been close to 2,000 happy Halloweeners gathered in our downtown. Again, thank you, thank you to all who brought so much joy to our children this Halloween.
