COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) _ Joe Wilbert scored 26 points as Texas A&M maintained a slim second second-half lead and held on for a 67-64 victory over Southern Methodist on Wednesday night.

The Aggies (13-15, 6-7 Southwest Conference) trailed 32-31 at halftime, then took a 47-45 lead with 9:30 to play. They never led by more than six and were ahead by as little as one at 52-51.

Their lead was up to 64-58 with 21 seconds left, then it was cut to 66-64 on a 3-pointers by Jameil Rich and Troy Matthews. Rich missed a 3-pointer as time expired that would've forced overtime.

Freshman Kyle Kessell, who made one last-second free throw but missed another that would've sealed the victory, had eight assists, nine rebounds and seven points.

The Mustangs (6-19, 2-11) got 14 points from Matt Timme and Rich had 11.

Other top scorers for A&M were Damon Johnson and Tony McGinnis with 12 apiece.
