TEACHER-SEX ABUSE — A trial is underway for a Wyoming middle school teacher charged with sexually abusing a student between May 2014 and April 2017. Laramie County prosecutors said Monday they have DNA evidence and electronic messages to prove the eight counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor against Joseph Meza.

ANIMAL SHELTER-PEPPER SPRAY— Two members of a Wyoming animal shelter board have resigned after the board suspended the CEO instead of firing him for ordering a dog to be pepper sprayed after it bit a shelter employee. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported Tuesday that Cheyenne Animal Shelter board member Lynn Boak resigned Monday, saying she felt the board should have fired Bob Fecht. He was suspended without pay for 60 days. Another board member resigned earlier.

DENVER — Phillies’ RHP Vince Velasquez (9-11, 4.59 ERA) makes his second start this season against Colorado on Tuesday. He beat the Rockies on June 14 by allowing two runs over 6 2/3 innings. Game starts at 6:40 p.m.
