The exclamation point came Saturday night with a 44-36 win over the host Quakers in the Plainfield Winter Classic final. The Blazers’ Emma and Sophia Nolan combined for 13 of Marquette’s 15 first-quarter points. The team tallied assists, two from Emmery Joseph and Morgan Crook each, on all six of its field goals in the opening period. Joseph and Crook swished 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions in the last 1:20 of the first half to put the Blazers ahead 28-16 at the break. Sophia was in double figures with 11 at half. The Quakers cut it to seven with 1:30 remaining in the game, but Marquette shot 6-for-8 from the foul line down the stretch to prevail. Sophia Nolan led the Blazers (14-1) with 16 points, one ahead of Emma Nolan, who had 15. The victory ran Marquette’s winning streak to a program-record 14 games and finished a 27-1 calendar year. It also closed out a stretch of four outings covering two sites in a span of 32 hours.
