Maginnes’ Caddie Collapses
LEMONT, Ill. (AP) _ Garland Dempsey, John Maginnes’ caddie, collapsed on the 15th hole of Saturday’s third round of the Western Open, and was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
Dempsey was taken to Palos Community Hospital, where he was being evaluated. It wasn’t clear why Dempsey collapsed, but the temperature was in the 90s with the humidity making it feel like 116 degrees.
Maginness, who was five shots off the lead when Dempsey collapsed, continued playing. An ABC crew member replaced Dempsey as the caddie.
Last year, Greg Kraft’s caddie collapsed with heat stroke during the third round at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club. Mark Hensel was taken to a hospital for IV fluids and was back carrying the bag for the final round.
