Alabama woman killed when boat strikes tree on Coosa River
WETUMPKA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama authorities say a 32-year-old woman is dead after a boat struck a tree on the Coosa River.
Capt. Gary Buchanan of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said in an email that Krista Danielle Elliott of Wetumpka died early Saturday at about midnight. He said she was a passenger in a boat that hit a tree hanging over the river.
Buchanan said the only other person on the boat was its operator, who wasn’t harmed. He said the crash remains under investigation.
WRBL-TV reports it’s been a deadly month on Alabama lakes and rivers, with the state Marine Patrol reporting 12 boating crashes with six fatalities between July 3 and July 7.
