Prosecutors: Store clerk recognized men during robbery
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Two Massachusetts men have been sentenced to prison for attempting to rob a convenience store where they were repeat customers.
The Republican (http://bit.ly/2bfiT1L ) reports that 38-year-old Israel Cruz and 36-year-old Daniel Figueroa-Cruz pleaded guilty Tuesday in Hampden Superior Court to attempting to commit armed robbery while masked. The men were each sentenced to three years in state prison.
Prosecutors say the men tried to rob a Sunoco gas station in West Springfield in August 2015 armed with a knife. But the clerk recognized them and told them she knew who they were. The men left without any money.
The clerk later identified them as the would-be robbers. Police say Israel Cruz still had his ski mask when the two were arrested.
