One in custody after attempted child abduction

April 3, 2019

BARBOURSVILLE — Barboursville police and mall security responded to a report of an attempted child abduction at the Huntington Mall Monday night.

Police have one person in custody, but details about the alleged incident were not immediately clear, said Joe Bell, director of corporate communications for the mall’s parent company. No abduction took place.

“Our security people responded rather quickly, as did city police, and we are just grateful no one was injured,” Bell said.

Bell said he was waiting to find out more information from police, who were still investigating the alleged incident Monday night.

Mall staff would review any security evidence for use in the police’s investigation, he said. Mall security responded to the incident as they were trained to do, he said. The mall has both electronic and human security measures in place, he said.
